XAUUSD Session Review: October 5, 2026, Range Held After Two Lower-Edge Breaks

XAUUSD closed 1.18 dollars above its open after two breaks below 4,133.64 failed to confirm. The Range call and Neutral / Wait lean were right, but the 37% bearish branch did not fire and the 35% lower-range rotation stopped before 4,177.57. The next preparation should keep the multi-step break confirmation and add a nearer decision point inside the range.

The tape

  1. Open, first 60 minutes

The first recorded H1 candle dipped to 4,132.40, just below the 4,133.64 lower trigger, then closed at 4,147.52. Gold climbed to 4,163.01 during Asia before falling back toward the 4,140.10 anchor. The opening test rejected the lower trigger instead of building bearish acceptance.

  2. Mid-session

London pushed to 4,124.50 and closed the 07:00 hour at 4,131.20. That close was below 4,133.64 but above 4,125.00, and the next hour failed to produce the required second close below support. Gold then rallied through 4,155 and printed the session high at 4,170.11 during the 11:00 hour. The move matched lower-range rotation but stopped before the 4,177.57 pivot. The scheduled US services releases arrived at 13:45 and 14:00 UTC while price held between 4,150.88 and 4,168.30. The calendar feed did not carry actual release values, so the price record supports one conclusion: the event window produced no durable break.

  3. Late / close

Price fell to 4,131.25 during the 16:00 hour, rebounded to 4,148.17, then made the day's low at 4,123.11 during the 18:00 hour. The 19:00 candle closed below 4,133.64 at 4,130.16, but the next hour reclaimed the trigger and the 21:00 candle closed at 4,142.78. Gold finished at 4,140.25 against a 4,139.07 open. The lower edge was tested hard twice, yet the session ended back on the anchor with no held floor break.

What we learned

*The session unfolded within the expected parameters. No material surprises.* The lower-range rotation topped at 4,170.11, 7.46 dollars short of 4,177.57, and the second lower-edge test arrived after the primary 13:00 to 15:00 UTC breakout window. Those were low-level variations inside the mapped range, not a regime change.

  1. Day-type precondition checks

Keep post-whipsaw digestion and missing top-driver confirmation as reasons to call Range. The 0.54 ATR result supports that filter even with high-importance services releases during New York.

  2. Driver-stack ordering

Do not give a nominal bearish branch extra weight from a weak prior close when real yields and the dollar are unavailable. This one session does not justify a priors edit, but the 2-point lead margin correctly marked the map as a coin flip.

  3. Tradability standard

Preserve the full bearish sequence of displaced close, failed retest, and second close below 4,125.00. It filtered two lower-edge breaks that would otherwise have produced false directional calls.

  4. Tradability standard

Add a nearer H1 decision point when a range branch's first structural waypoint sits 0.43 ATR from the anchor. That would make an incomplete rotation such as the stall below 4,177.57 easier to grade without weakening the outer trigger.
