EURUSD Session Review, October 9, 2026: The Whipsaw Broke Both Edges

EURUSD finished 1.3 pips below its open after probing above 1.12414 and later trading below 1.12025. The Whipsaw call and Neutral / Wait lean were right, but the 36% lead branch was too narrow because price did not stay inside the decision band.

  1. Day-type callCorrect
    Called
Whipsaw, based on conflicting weekly structure, dollar pressure, and the repaired H4 tape

Price ran above the upper decision threshold, reversed below the lower edge, then closed within 1.3 pips of the open
  2. LeanCorrect
    Called
    Neutral / Wait
    Actual
Neither direction secured a durable daily resolution, and EURUSD closed almost flat
  3. Conditional leanCorrect · no trigger
    Called
Long only after a full-range H1 close above 1.12414 and a held retest of 1.12264; short only after a full-range H1 close below 1.12025 and a failed retest below 1.12147
    Actual
The 08:00 candle touched 1.12425 but closed at 1.12313. The 15:00 candle closed below 1.12025, but its 19.4-pip range missed the 26.1-pip expansion test
  4. Lead scenarioIncorrect
    Called
Two-way whipsaw inside the decision band at 36%
    Actual
The day was two-sided, but several H1 candles closed below 1.12025 and price fell to 1.11872
  5. Scenario that firedNote · Not mapped
    Called
No mapped branch carried the exact path
    Actual
The tape combined an unconfirmed upside probe, a low-displacement downside break, sustained late trade below 1.12025, and a recovery toward the open
  6. Scenario-map qualityPartial
    Called
Four branches covered inside-band whipsaw, bullish repair, a failed downside break, and bearish continuation
    Actual
The map captured the components, but no branch described the realized hybrid from upside probe to late downside overshoot and near-flat close
  7. Driver stackCorrect
    Called
Rate evidence lacked a clean edge, dollar strength conflicted with the repaired H4 structure, and the disagreement favored Whipsaw

The tape

  1. Open

EURUSD opened at 1.12030 and closed its first hour at 1.12098 after trading down to 1.11950. The Asian phase then climbed through 1.12147 and reached 1.12284 before London, putting the upper edge in play without confirming a break.

  2. Mid-session

London extended the rise. The 08:00 candle touched 1.12425, 1.1 pips above the upside confirmation threshold, but closed at 1.12313 with a 13.3-pip range. That was neither the required close nor the required displacement. Price rolled over from there, crossed 1.12147 during the 13:00 hour, and approached 1.12025 around the scheduled US data window. The calendar carried no result that supports a sound event attribution, so the reversal is graded from price alone.

  3. Late / close

The 15:00 candle closed at 1.11976, below 1.12025, but its 19.4-pip range remained short of the 26.1-pip expansion threshold. EURUSD stayed below the lower edge and reached 1.11872 during the 19:00 hour. A late recovery lifted price to 1.12040 before the day closed at 1.12017, just 1.3 pips below the open and 0.8 pip below 1.12025.

What we learned

The day-type and neutral lean survived, but the lead branch did not. The moderate surprise was sustained late trade below 1.12025 after the early upside probe, followed by a close almost exactly back at the open. The preparation could have anticipated this better by defining Whipsaw through failed confirmation and lack of durable resolution, not by requiring every H1 close to remain inside a narrow band.

  1. Precondition checks, lead-branch boundary

Keep Whipsaw as the base call when the driver stack conflicts, but allow an edge overshoot to remain part of that branch until a full-range H1 close and retest confirm acceptance. The next preparation should not invalidate a two-sided call on a small close beyond the band alone.

  2. Tradability standard, conditional trigger quality

Retain the 26.1-pip expansion test. It correctly blocked both the 08:00 upside probe and the 15:00 downside close from becoming directional signals.

  3. Precondition checks, map coverage

Add an explicit hybrid path for an unconfirmed London probe followed by a low-displacement New York break and late mean reversion. The current map split those ingredients across three branches, leaving the realized path without a scoreable weight.

  4. Driver-stack ordering, successful conflict read

No EURUSD driver-priority edit is warranted from this session. Rate evidence remained inconclusive, background dollar pressure did not produce a decisive close, and the conflicting stack correctly pointed to two-sided trade. --- Reviewed prep: 2026-10-09-eurusd-session-preparation
