SP500 Session Review — August 10, 2026

Opening-Bar Support Held to the Tick, Coil Confirmed Into a Flat Close

SP500 traded the tightest session of the week on Monday, ranging just 33.43 points (32% of the 14-day ATR) entirely inside the prep's called 7,698.68-7,793.69 compression band, and closed at 7,752.94 -- down 1.5 points (-0.02%) from the open, essentially flat. The session low landed at 7,740.31 in the very first hour, an exact tag of the prep's flagged opening-bar support that was never threatened again, while the interior 7,761.73 resistance was reclaimed for several hours and pushed to a 7,773.74 high before the power-hour selloff gave it back into the close. With no tier-1 catalyst on the calendar, the prep's 45%-weighted range/coil lead scenario, its Neutral/Wait conditional lean, and its full-alignment driver-stack read all held cleanly -- the cleanest possible confirmation of the coil thesis ahead of Wednesday's CPI print.

  1. Day-type callCorrect
    Called
Range -- no tier-1 US release scheduled, structurally dead overnight book, index mid-consolidation beneath a twice-tested double top
    Actual
Confirmed: day range 33.43 points vs. ~103-point D1 ATR (32%) -- the tightest session of the week, no scheduled release printed
  2. LeanCorrect · neutral-correct
    Called
Neutral/Wait; conditional: long on a held H1 close above 7,793.69, short on a held loss of 7,698.68
    Actual
Neither trigger fired; session closed at 7,752.94, down 1.5 points (-0.02%) from the 7,754.44 open -- nothing durable resolved
  3. Conditional leanCorrect · no trigger
    Called
Long trigger at 7,793.69 / short trigger at 7,698.68
    Actual
Day high 7,773.74 (20 points short); day low 7,740.31 (42 points clear) -- neither trigger came close to firing
  4. Lead scenarioCorrect
    Called
    Range/coil holds inside 7,698.68-7,793.69 -- 45% (12-point lead over the 33% breakout branch)
    Actual
Held the entire session; no H1 close ever occurred beyond either edge
  5. Key level 7,793.69 (resistance)Correct
    Called
    Sweep target/breakout trigger
    Actual
Never tested -- session high 7,773.74 (17:00 UTC), 20 points clear
  6. Key level 7,761.73 (interior resistance)Partial
    Called
First overhead test; a reclaim on the way up would corroborate the breakout branch
    Actual
Reclaimed and held for roughly seven hours (07:00-18:00 UTC, with brief dips), pushed to the day's 7,773.74 high, then gave it back in the power-hour selloff and closed the day below it at 7,752.94
  7. Key level 7,740.31 (support, opening H4-bar low)Correct
    Called
Thin, early-session support; a break without NY confirmation more likely a sweep
    Actual
Tagged exactly at 7,740.31 in the opening H1 bar (01:00 UTC) and never revisited for the rest of the session
  8. Key level 7,706.38 (support)Correct
    Called
Interior structure; a confirmed-close loss would tilt toward the fade branch
    Actual
Never tested -- day low 34 points clear
  9. Key level 7,698.68 (support, fade level)Correct
    Called
Needs a confirmed H1 close to matter, not a mere touch
    Actual
    Never tested
  10. Key level 7,650.00 (deep support)Correct
    Called
Range-integrity line; a break argues the post-breakout structure is failing
    Actual
Never tested -- day low over 90 points clear
  11. Driver-stack tiltCorrect
    Called
Full alignment toward digestion -- no fresh rates read, no mega-cap catalyst, prior-day structure and thin Asian range both favoring range, no systematic-flow signal
    Actual
Calendar check confirmed no medium/high-importance USD release for the session; price behaved exactly as a pure digestion day, gravitating inside the band with no directional catalyst

The tape

  1. Open (00:00-01:00 UTC)

The session opened at 7,754.44 and immediately dipped to 7,740.31 within the first hour -- the exact level of the prep's flagged "low of Monday's opening H4 bar" support, tagged and defended on the very first test.

  2. Mid-session

From that early low, price ground steadily higher through the overnight and European hours, climbing from roughly 7,744 to 7,767 by the 08:00 UTC hour and holding a tight 7,761-7,773 range through the late-morning and pre-cash-open stretch. The 7,761.73 interior resistance was reclaimed on a closing basis from the 07:00 UTC hour onward and held through most of the session, with the day's high -- 7,773.74 -- printing at 17:00 UTC, roughly 2.5 hours after the 14:30 UTC cash open, still 20 points short of the 7,793.69 double top. The 14:00-15:00 UTC decision window itself produced only a modest drift lower (7,762.74 to 7,759.24), and the 15:00-16:00 UTC NY-overlap hour swept down to 7,748.49 before closing back up at 7,750.49 -- a pullback bottom that, per the prep's own Session Map caution, was not treated as a buyable dip, and indeed the subsequent bounce into the 7,773.74 high faded back within the same 17:00 UTC hour rather than extending.

  3. Late / close

The 19:00-21:00 UTC power hour delivered the session's sharpest single-hour move: a drop from 7,766.99 to a 7,742.74 low within the 19:00 UTC bar, just 2.4 points above the day's opening-bar low, before recovering to close that hour at 7,753.24. It was this give-back that pulled price back below the 7,761.73 interior level for good. From there the session chopped in a narrow 7,746-7,758 band through the final hours and settled at 7,752.94 into the close -- down 1.5 points (-0.02%) from the open, comfortably inside the called compression band throughout and never within 20 points of either outer edge.

What we learned

The session unfolded almost exactly as the preparation scripted it; the points below are calibration notes rather than corrections.

  1. The interior 7,761.73 level reclaimed-then-faded again, echoing the August 7 pattern (route: driver-stack priors edit / session-map calibration)

For a second time this week, an interior resistance level was reclaimed cleanly for most of the session but gave it back during the power-hour window rather than holding into the close. An interior-level reclaim should be treated as a live intraday tilt signal, not a durable hold, until it survives the 19:00-21:00 UTC window specifically -- that window has now twice been the point where an apparent interior-level hold unwound.

  2. The opening H4-bar low proved to be the exact session low and held without a second test (no change needed; validates level-tiering)

The 7,740.31 level -- flagged as "thin, early-session support" -- was tagged to the tick in the very first H1 bar and never revisited for the rest of the day. Keep treating same-day opening-range extremes as real, gradeable support/resistance rather than discounting them as noise-level.

  3. Power hour again produced the session's second-lowest print, reinforcing the carried-forward caution (no change needed)

The 19:00-21:00 UTC dip to 7,742.74 -- just 2.4 points above the session low -- validates continuing to treat this window as a secondary watch rather than pure de-risking, consistent with the lesson carried forward from prior sessions.

  4. The realized pivot sat higher than the called range midpoint (route: session-map calibration)

The prep's range branch anticipated gravitation toward a 7,740-7,761 pivot area; the session's actual center of gravity ran closer to 7,755-7,768, in the upper half of the band. The branch call itself was correct, but a live-updating pivot estimate (anchored to the opening-hour drift rather than a static mid-band guess) would have placed the expected gravitation zone more precisely. --- Reviewed prep: 2026-08-10-sp500-session-preparation
