Market data as of

S&P 500 Daily Regime, 23 October 2026

Regime: Corrective bearish pressure inside a broad weekly range.

The reference price is 7667.83, from the M5 candle closed at 2026-10-23 00:00 UTC. Sellers control the short-term structure after the 22 October decline, but the larger range floor around 7631 to 7617 hasn't broken.

Structure

Observation, W1: The latest completed weekly candle closed on 17 October at 7657.87 after trading from 7839.17 to 7631.42. It reversed nearly all of the prior week's advance and closed below the preceding two weekly closes. The completed weekly evidence still describes a wide 7507.02 to 7845.02 range, with price now pressing its lower half. No current-week W1 candle was supplied.

Observation, D1: The 22 October session fell from 7758.79 to 7637.72 and closed at 7664.92. That decline erased the recovery made from 19 through 21 October. The market has already lost 7711.11 and 7671.78, so neither should be framed as support that might break later. The 7631.42 swing low from 16 October remains intact by 6.30 points.

Inference: The weekly range hasn't become a confirmed structural downtrend, but daily momentum has turned bearish again. A sustained break below 7631.42 would strengthen the case for a broader range expansion lower. Holding that floor leaves room for stabilization or a corrective rebound.

H4 and H1 condition

Observation, H4: Price declined from the 21 October high at 7771.61 through a sequence of lower H4 closes. The final completed H4 candle tested 7637.72 and closed at 7664.92, showing rejection from the low without repairing the bearish sequence.

Observation, H1: The latest completed H1 candle closed at 7667.83 at 00:00 UTC. The final two H1 candles held between 7660.58 and 7675.83 after the earlier selloff. The rebound from 7637.72 reached 7677.18, then stalled.

Inference: H1 is consolidating after an impulsive decline, not yet reversing it. Recovery above 7675.83 would improve the immediate tone, but 7702.97 and 7730.67 are the more meaningful repair levels.

Latest M5 development

There are no completed M5 candles after the latest H1 close. Within that final H1 candle, price fell from 7672.33 to 7660.58, recovered to 7667.83, and finished below 7675.83. The earlier breaks beneath 7711.11 and 7671.78 are observed developments. The remaining question is whether the market can hold above 7637.72 to 7631.42 or accepts below that zone.

Scenario map

  • Bearish continuation, 40%: Acceptance below 7631.42 confirms that the 16 October floor has failed. The next supplied support is 7617.01, with 7507.02 the larger weekly downside reference.

  • Stabilization, 35%: Price holds 7631.42 and rotates between that floor and 7702.97. This would pause the decline but leave the daily regime corrective bearish while closes remain below 7702.97.

  • Bullish repair, 25%: Price reclaims 7702.97, then closes through 7730.67. That would weaken the immediate bearish structure and expose 7758.79 to 7771.61. A move above 7771.61 would be needed before the October highs at 7839.17 to 7845.02 become the active objective.

Event risk

The supplied calendar covers 23 October through 25 October 2026 and contains no events. No specific scheduled catalyst can be identified from this packet for those dates. Price acceptance around 7631.42 and 7702.97 therefore carries more information than an event narrative unsupported by the frozen data packet alone.

The working bias stays bearish below 7702.97, with 7637.72 to 7631.42 serving as the decision zone for continuation versus stabilization within the weekly range.
