XAUUSD Daily Regime, 29 October 2026

Regime: Higher-timeframe bearish correction, with a short-term rebound still active but losing momentum.

The weekly structure remains bearish. After peaking at 4696.66 in August, XAUUSD formed lower highs and then closed last week at 3995.32, below the August low at 4019.09. That confirms a material deterioration in weekly structure. The current recovery has moved price back above 4000, but it hasn't repaired the sequence of lower highs.

Daily price action shows a three-session rebound from the 3975.59 low. Tuesday closed at 4059.93 and Wednesday at 4067.21 after reaching 4082.54. This is a corrective recovery inside the broader decline while price remains below the broken 4104.91 to 4141.10 area. A daily hold above 4082.54 would strengthen the rebound and expose 4104.91, then 4141.10. Failure below 4082.54 keeps the recovery vulnerable to another test of 4024.88 and 3975.59.

H4 has shifted from persistent selling into a volatile recovery. The latest completed H4 candle swept 4024.88, reached 4082.54 and closed at 4067.21. That rejection from the low is constructive, but the wide range also shows event-driven instability rather than an orderly trend. H4 resistance is 4082.54, followed by 4104.91. Support sits at 4024.88, then 3975.59.

H1 confirms that the rebound stalled beneath 4082.54. Price surged from 4027.41 to 4075.50 during the 19:00 UTC hour, extended to 4082.54 in the next hour, then faded. The latest completed H1 candle, closing at 23:00 UTC, fell from 4066.82 to 4051.69 and finished near its 4050.90 low.

The latest M5 sequence is already bearish, not a pending support-break scenario. Between 22:00 and 23:00 UTC, price declined from 4066.82 to 4051.69, broke below 4055.43, and printed a lower low at 4050.90. No completed M5 candles are supplied after that H1 close. The immediate question is therefore whether 4050.90 can hold after the break, not whether 4055 will break.

Scenario map

  • Base case: Below 4068.24, the late M5 decline keeps pressure on 4050.90. Acceptance beneath that level would expose 4040.00 to 4035.85, followed by 4024.88.
  • Recovery case: Holding 4050.90 and reclaiming 4068.24 would neutralize the latest M5 downswing. Price would then need to clear 4075.50 and 4082.54 to extend the daily rebound toward 4104.91.
  • Bearish continuation: A break and hold below 4024.88 would undo the H4 recovery and reopen 3975.59. Below 3975.59, the weekly breakdown resumes with fresh downside structure.

The 28 October Fed decision and press conference had already passed before the data cutoff. Their effect is visible in the 4024.88 to 4082.54 expansion and subsequent retreat.

The next dated risk is the concentrated US data release at 12:30 UTC on 29 October: Core PCE month on month and year on year, GDP quarter on quarter, GDP Sales quarter on quarter, and Initial Jobless Claims. With price sitting between 4050.90 support and 4082.54 resistance after a wide post-Fed range, that release can decide whether the rebound extends toward 4104.91 or rolls back toward 4024.88.

Session Card

Day type: range | Lean: bearish below 4068.24 | Lead scenario: Bearish continuation, 45% | Key invalidation: 4068.24 | Reference: 4052.72, M5 close at 2026-10-28 23:30 UTC

What changed

The late decline through 4055.43 was already complete before the latest H1 close. Since that 4051.69 close, M5 price briefly traded below the 4050.90 H1 low to 4050.72, but no candle closed below it. The rebound reached 4056.86, then fell back to 4050.93 before settling at 4052.72. That leaves 4050.90 defended on closes but repeatedly tested, while the rebound lacks acceptance above 4056.86.

The post-Fed expansion from 4024.88 to 4082.54 and the subsequent retreat are completed context. The accepted daily regime remains a bearish correction with a vulnerable rebound. Asia opens near the lower edge of the latest H1 range, so the immediate decision is whether 4050.90 finally fails or the defended floor supports a recovery toward 4068.24.

The selected 22 October case expanded lower only after a close and failed reclaim, which supports demanding the same full sequence here. On 27 October, the bearish path reached its first zone but reversed before completing the wider path. The 28 October review also warns that eventual direction doesn't establish entry eligibility. Those cases challenge an early short: 4050.90 has not closed broken, and nearby opposition must be respected.

Bearish continuation45%After 00:00 UTC and public availability, require 1 completed M5 close below 4050.90. Within the next 3 M5 bars, price must retest 4050.90-4052.72 and produce a second M5 close at or below 4050.90. Entry: 4049.80-4050.90 after the failed reclaim. Expiry: 07:30 UTC.First opposition: 4040.00, the nearby intraday support. If it fails, 4035.85 is the next separate objective, followed by 4024.88.Scenario invalidation: completed M5 close above 4052.72 after confirmation. Structural stop: 4054.40, above the failed-reclaim band and the latest closing shelf.
Defended-floor recovery35%Require 1 completed M5 close above 4056.86. Within the next 3 M5 bars, price must retest 4055.05-4056.86, never trade below 4054.00 and produce a second M5 close at or above 4056.86. Entry: 4056.86-4058.00 after the held retest. Expiry: 07:30 UTC.First opposition: 4068.24, the latest H1 high.Scenario invalidation: completed M5 close below 4055.05 after confirmation. Entry: 4068.24-4069.50 after the held retest. Expiry: 07:30 UTC.First opposition: 4075.50, the post-Fed H1 swing high. If that becomes support, 4082.54 is the next separate objective.Scenario invalidation: completed M5 close below 4066.82 after confirmation. Structural stop: 4064.80, below the breakout base and permitted retest low.

Key Levels

  • 4082.54: daily and H4 rebound high. A hold above it would strengthen the rebound without changing the accepted daily regime.
  • 4075.50: first resistance beyond a confirmed 4068.24 reclaim.
  • 4068.24: latest H1 high and numeric invalidation for the bearish Asia lean.
  • 4056.86: post-H1 M5 rebound high. It must become support before a recovery entry is valid.
  • 4050.90: latest H1 low. M5 traded to 4050.72 after that close but recovered, so the level has been tested rather than confirmed broken.
  • 4040.00: first downside opposition after a confirmed failure of 4050.90.
  • 4035.85: separate H4 and H1 swing support.
  • 4024.88: post-Fed expansion low and stronger downside support.

Session Map

  • 00:00 UTC: Asia phase begins alongside the 09:00 Japan Standard Time Tokyo cash open. Treat the first move through 4050.90 or 4056.86 as discovery until the full close and retest sequence completes.
  • 01:30 UTC: Hong Kong and Shanghai cash markets open at 09:30 Hong Kong Time and China Standard Time. A widening range here still needs confirmation within the stated bar limit.
  • 02:00 to 05:00 UTC: Main follow-through window. Favor the downside while price remains below 4068.24, but don't sell after 4040.00 has already traded.
  • 05:00 to 08:00 UTC: Late phase. Pass confirmations outside their entry budgets and let all candidates expire by the stated boundary.

No scheduled calendar event falls inside the Asia window.

No-Trade Conditions

Do not treat another wick below 4050.90 as a short trigger. The break needs a completed M5 close and a failed reclaim within three bars. A decisive close above 4052.72 after confirmation cancels that candidate; a later break starts a new sequence.

Stand aside during repeated crossings of 4050.90-4056.86. Do not buy a rebound that remains below 4056.86, and don't chase a recovery if 4068.24 or 4075.50 has traded before its relevant confirmation completes.

For the bearish entry, the worst permitted price for room is 4049.80. It leaves 9.80 points to 4040.00 against 4.60 points to the 4054.40 stop. The defended-floor recovery leaves 10.24 points from its worst entry at 4058.00 to 4068.24, against 4.60 points to the 4053.40 stop. The extension leaves 6.00 points from 4069.50 to 4075.50, against 4.70 points to the 4064.80 stop. Spread, commission and slippage are unknown and reduce that room.

Pass any trigger whose confirmation closes outside its entry area, whose retest arrives after the bar limit, or whose first opposition has already been reached. The concentrated US data risk is outside this phase and doesn't justify holding an expired Asia candidate open.

What to Watch — Invalidation

A completed M5 reclaim above 4068.24 that survives the bounded retest invalidates the bearish Asia lean and shifts attention to 4075.50, then 4082.54. Acceptance above 4082.54 would strengthen the active rebound, but it would not by itself overturn the accepted higher-timeframe bearish correction.

Below, 4050.90 isn't broken on closing evidence yet. Once a valid failed-reclaim sequence forms, any completed M5 close above 4052.72 cancels that bearish candidate. Failure through 4040.00 would expose 4035.85, while 4024.88 remains the stronger test of whether the rebound can survive.
