Market data as of

S&P 500 Daily Regime, 29 October 2026

Regime: Broad weekly consolidation with a damaged daily upswing. The rebound from 7610.13 has restored short-term balance, but rejection from 7785.07 leaves the H4 and H1 condition defensive.

The latest reference is 7718.94, from the M5 candle closed at 23:00 UTC on 28 October.

Structure

W1: Completed weekly candles show a wide 7507.02 to 7845.02 range. The advance into 7845.02 failed to hold, followed by two bearish weekly closes at 7657.87 and 7632.83. That is observable loss of momentum near the range ceiling, not yet a confirmed weekly breakdown while 7610.13 and 7507.02 remain intact.

D1: Price rebounded for three sessions from the 23 October low at 7610.13, reaching 7785.07 on 28 October. The latest daily candle closed at 7725.44 after surrendering that high, leaving a large upper wick and only a marginal gain from its 7724.31 open. The recovery remains above the 7632.83 weekly close, but the rejection below 7839.17 to 7845.02 keeps the daily structure corrective rather than cleanly bullish.

H4 and H1 condition

H4 produced higher lows from 7616.01 through 7665.07 and advanced to 7785.07. The final completed H4 candle then reversed from that high and closed at 7725.44, near the lower part of its 7716.69 to 7785.07 range. This is a failed extension above 7752.99, with sellers active into the upper resistance band.

H1 confirms the rejection. The 20:00 UTC candle traded from 7751.45 to 7785.07, fell to 7716.69 and closed at 7725.44. After the one-hour data gap, the 22:00 UTC candle opened at 7731.88, reached 7735.25, broke the earlier 7716.69 low, printed 7710.63 and closed at 7718.94. The breaks of 7723.24 and 7716.69 have already occurred and now form overhead recovery tests, not future downside triggers.

Latest M5 development

During the latest completed H1 period, M5 price fell from 7735.25 to 7710.63. It recovered to 7718.94 by 23:00 UTC, but the rebound stayed below 7720.38 and well below the 7723.50 to 7725.25 opening area. Observation: immediate selling has slowed above 7710.63. Inference: the bounce is still corrective unless price can reclaim 7725.25 and then 7735.25.

Levels and remaining scenarios

  • Bearish pressure remains dominant below 7725.25 to 7735.25. A fresh loss of 7710.63 would expose 7703.62, followed by 7681.46 to 7678.07. Below that, 7665.07 and 7632.83 are the next structural references.
  • Stabilisation requires a reclaim of 7725.25. Acceptance above 7735.25 would reduce immediate downside pressure and reopen 7752.99 to 7759.99. The stronger bullish test is 7785.07, where the latest advance was rejected.
  • A sustained break above 7785.07 would repair the H1 and H4 damage and bring 7839.17 to 7845.02 back into focus. Until then, rallies remain vulnerable inside the broader weekly range.

Event risk

A concentrated USD event window is scheduled for 29 October at 12:30 UTC, covering Core PCE measures, quarterly GDP and GDP sales, plus initial jobless claims. That cluster can produce abrupt index repricing and poor execution around the release. The 28 October Fed decision and press conference occurred before the cutoff; the spike to 7785.07 and subsequent reversal followed during that completed event period, although timing alone doesn't establish causation.

Session Card

Day type: range | Lean: bearish below 7726.38 | Lead scenario: rebound rejection, 45% | Key invalidation: 7735.25 | Reference: 7718.63, M5 close at 23:30 UTC on 28 October 2026

What changed

After the latest H1 close at 23:00 UTC, completed M5 trade rebounded from 7718.88 to 7726.38. One candle closed above 7725.25 at 7725.63, but price couldn't hold the reclaim and returned to 7718.63 by the cutoff. That makes the recovery attempt an observed failure below 7735.25, not a future bullish trigger.

The earlier breaks of 7723.24 and 7716.69 are complete. Immediate selling has paused above 7710.63, but the failed rebound leaves 7723.50 to 7726.38 as resistance and keeps the H1 condition defensive. A fresh downside plan must begin from a new rejection or from confirmed acceptance below 7703.62.

The selected 28 October case warns against rescuing a candidate after confirmation finishes outside its entry budget. The 22 October case also showed that a lower-weight continuation branch can complete while the lead remains inactive. Those observations support strict confirmation and passing missed entries, not a numerical weight adjustment. The current difference is the sharp rejection from 7785.07 and the failed pre-window reclaim, which put Asia beneath damaged H1 structure rather than inside a balanced consolidation.

Scenario Map

ScenarioWeightTriggerPath & targetInvalidation
Fresh rebound rejection45%After the phase opens, price must trade into 7723.50-7726.38, then one M5 candle must close below 7720.38. Within the next two M5 bars, price must retest 7720.38 within 7718.38-7722.38 and fail with an M5 close below 7720.38. Entry: 7719.00-7720.25 after that failed-reclaim close. Expiry: 07:15 UTC.First opposition: 7710.63, the latest H1 and M5 low. From the worst permitted short entry at 7719.00, there are 8.37 points to opposition against 8.25 points to the stop. Spread and slippage are unknown and excluded.Scenario close invalidation: an M5 close above 7726.38 after confirmation. Structural stop: 7727.25, above the failed-reclaim band and pre-window rebound high.
Recovery above pre-window resistance30%Two consecutive M5 closes above 7726.38. Within the next two M5 bars, price must retest 7726.38 within 7722.35-7726.38 and hold with an M5 close at or above 7725.25. Candidate expires at 07:15 UTC. Context-only, no entry: the first opposition is too close to support a defensible entry budget against a stop below 7716.69.First opposition: 7735.25, the latest completed H1 high. A held break would reduce immediate downside pressure, but 7752.99 remains separate resistance beyond it.Scenario close invalidation: an M5 close below 7720.38 after confirmation. Any structural stop below 7716.69 would leave less room to 7735.25 than risk from a plausible entry, before unknown costs.
Accepted breakdown below 7703.6225%Two consecutive M5 closes below 7703.62. Within the next two M5 bars, price must retest 7703.62 within 7699.59-7707.65 and fail with an M5 close below 7703.62. Entry: 7700.00-7703.25 after that failed-reclaim close. Expiry: 07:15 UTC.First opposition: 7678.07-7681.46 target zone, grouping the 26 October daily close and the following daily open within the supplied 4.03 point maximum gap. From the worst permitted short entry at 7700.00, the zone begins 18.54 points away against 11.00 points to the stop. Spread and slippage are unknown and excluded.Scenario close invalidation: an M5 close above 7707.65 after confirmation. Structural stop: 7711.00, above the 7710.63 breakdown origin.

Key Levels

  • 7735.25: Latest completed H1 high and the numeric invalidation for the bearish Asia lean.
  • 7723.50-7726.38: Failed pre-window recovery area. The lower boundary is the latest H1 opening zone; the upper boundary is the completed M5 rebound high.
  • 7720.38: Failed-reclaim threshold for a fresh rejection setup.
  • 7710.63: Latest H1 and M5 low, already tested and still intact at the cutoff.
  • 7703.62: Prior daily high and the next breakdown decision level.
  • 7678.07-7681.46: First target zone after acceptance below 7703.62, grouping the adjacent daily close and open within the 4.03 point policy limit.

Session Map

  • 00:00 to 01:30 UTC: Tokyo cash trading opens at 09:00 Japan Standard Time. Let a new test form. The pre-window rise to 7726.38 and return to 7718.63 are context only.
  • 01:30 to 05:00 UTC: Hong Kong and Shanghai cash markets open at 09:30 local time. Expansion is actionable only after the complete close and bounded retest sequence in the relevant branch.
  • 05:00 to 07:15 UTC: Require prompt confirmation. Pass any candidate that confirms outside its entry budget or reaches first opposition before entry becomes available.
  • 07:15 to 08:00 UTC: No new entries. Existing plans expire no later than the 08:00 UTC phase boundary.

No listed high-importance event falls within this phase. Only M5 candles completed after both the 00:00 UTC opening and this preparation becoming public can activate a branch.

No-Trade Conditions

  • No entry while completed M5 candles rotate between 7710.63 and 7726.38 without completing a stated rejection or reclaim sequence.
  • Do not sell the earlier breaks of 7723.24 or 7716.69. They have already occurred.
  • Pass a trigger if its confirmation closes outside the stated entry area. A later return requires a new candidate and cannot rescue the first one.
  • Do not chase a break of 7710.63 into nearby 7703.62. That space is too narrow for a separately justified stop, so the downside continuation entry begins only after acceptance below 7703.62.
  • Stand aside if price crosses 7720.38 repeatedly without holding either side, if fewer than two M5 bars remain before expiry, or if spread and slippage make the mapped room materially smaller.

What to Watch — Invalidation

Two consecutive M5 closes above 7735.25, followed within the next two M5 bars by a retest that stays above 7731.22 and closes back above 7735.25, invalidate the bearish Asia lean. That would repair the immediate H1 damage and expose 7752.99, but it wouldn't change the accepted daily regime. Below 7703.62, the bearish case strengthens only after the stated failed reclaim; a wick through the level isn't enough.
