Market data as of

S&P 500 Daily Regime, 30 October 2026

Regime: Corrective bearish pressure inside a broad weekly range.

The reference price is 7666.52, from the completed M5 candle at 2026-10-29 23:00 UTC.

Higher-timeframe structure

Observation: W1 remains contained within the broad 7507.02 to 7845.02 range. The advance into 7845.02 failed, and the last two completed weekly candles closed at 7657.87 and 7632.83. This week then rallied from 7616.01 to 7785.07 before giving most of that move back.

Inference: The larger range hasn't broken, but weekly momentum has deteriorated. Failed strength above 7780 and repeated closes near the lower half of the range favor defensive positioning until buyers regain 7740.88, then 7785.07.

Observation: D1 printed a bearish rejection on 29 October, opening at 7731.88, reaching 7740.88 and closing at 7678.63. The later M5 reference at 7666.52 extends below that daily close. The rebound from the 23 October low at 7610.13 produced higher daily closes through 27 October, but it stalled below the October peak and reversed sharply.

Inference: The daily recovery has failed for now. Price is rotating back toward the 7631.42 to 7610.13 support area, with 7845.02 still marking the major upside boundary.

H4 and H1 condition

Observation: H4 rejected 7785.07 on 28 October. On 29 October, successive H4 closes weakened from 7730.63 and 7734.68 to 7713.93, 7699.43 and 7678.63. The final completed H4 candle closed near its 7676.63 low.

Observation: H1 broke through 7700 and the earlier 7692.68 low. The 20:00 UTC candle fell from 7721.14 to 7678.63, with a 7676.63 low. The latest completed H1 candle then opened at 7674.58, traded down to 7661.33 and closed at 7666.52.

Inference: H4 and H1 are aligned lower. The selloff is stretched in the short term, but no completed H1 reversal is present. Former support around 7692.68 to 7705.30 is now the first meaningful recovery barrier.

Latest M5 development

Within the latest H1 candle, M5 initially bounced to 7680.27, then formed a sequence of lower prices into 7661.33. The final three candles recovered only to 7666.52. This is stabilization near the low, not a confirmed reversal. No completed M5 candle after the 23:00 UTC H1 close is supplied, so there is no later trigger to assess.

Levels and remaining paths

  • Immediate support: 7661.33. A fresh completed break below it would expose 7637.72 to 7631.42, followed by 7616.01 and 7610.13.
  • Immediate resistance: 7676.63 to 7685.13. Recovery through this area would test 7692.68 to 7705.30.
  • Stronger resistance: 7721.14 to 7740.88. Reclaiming this zone would weaken the current bearish condition and reopen 7785.07.
  • Major boundaries: 7610.13 below and 7845.02 above.

Bearish continuation remains the primary path while completed H1 candles stay below 7699.43 to 7705.30. A bounce from 7661.33 can develop after the sharp decline, but it remains corrective unless price reclaims that resistance band. Acceptance below 7631.42 would strengthen the case for another test of 7610.13.

Event risk

The high-importance US releases scheduled for 29 October at 12:30 UTC have already passed. The remaining dated risk is the MNI Chicago Business Barometer on 30 October at 13:45 UTC. It falls while price is pressing support, so volatility around 7661.33 and the 7637.72 to 7631.42 zone may increase.

Session Card

Day type: trend | Lean: bearish, but don't chase below support | Lead scenario: confirmed break of 7661.33, 45% | Key invalidation: 7705.30 | Reference: 7672.64, M5 close at 2026-10-29 23:30 UTC

What changed

The latest completed H1 closed at 7666.52 after testing 7661.33. The six completed M5 candles since that close held above the H1 low, rising from 7663.14 to a 7673.52 high and closing at 7672.64. That is a small recovery, not a bullish reversal. Price hasn't reclaimed the first resistance zone at 7676.63-7680.27, while 7661.33 remains unbroken.

The daily bearish rejection and the H4 and H1 decline still favor continuation, but the immediate decision has narrowed to whether 7661.33 breaks cleanly or produces a corrective bounce. The selected 7 October case warns against treating the first downside break as durable: that break reached support and was later reclaimed. The difference here is stronger H4 and H1 bearish alignment, but that historical trap still argues for a bounded failed-reclaim test before considering a short.

Scenario Map

------:---------
Confirmed continuation below 7661.3345%Two consecutive M5 closes below 7661.33. Within the next two M5 bars, price must retest 7659.33-7663.33 and then close below 7661.33. A trade above 7665.40 during that test, or no failed-reclaim close within two bars, cancels the candidate. Entry: 7659.00-7661.00 after confirmation. Pass if confirmation finishes below the entry budget. Expiry: 08:00 UTC.First opposition: 7637.72, the 22 October daily low. Further acceptance below it exposes 7631.42, which remains a separate objective because the gap exceeds the 4.07-point clustering tolerance. From the worst permitted entry, room to first opposition is 21.28 points against 16.00 points to the stop, before costs. Spread and slippage are unknown, so pass if they remove that buffer.Scenario close invalidation: one M5 close above 7676.63 after confirmation. Structural stop: 7675.00, above the post-H1 recovery high at 7673.52 and the 7674.58 H1 opening area.
Support holds and price repairs the latest decline35%An M5 candle trades within 7661.33-7665.40, followed within three M5 bars by two consecutive closes above 7668.77. Price must then retest 7666.77-7668.77 within two bars and confirm the hold with an M5 close above 7668.77. A close below 7661.33 cancels the sequence. Expiry: 08:00 UTC. Context-only, no entry.First opposition: 7676.63-7680.27, combining the daily low and latest H1 high. The distance from a confirmation near 7668.77 is too small to support a structural stop below 7661.33 once unknown costs are included.Structural failure: one M5 close below 7661.33 after the hold. No executable stop and entry budget have defensible room to first opposition.
Recovery gains acceptance above immediate resistance20%Two consecutive M5 closes above 7685.13. Within the next three M5 bars, price must retest 7681.06-7685.13, remain above 7681.06 and produce an M5 close above 7685.13 within two bars of the retest. A close below 7676.63 cancels the candidate. Expiry: 08:00 UTC. Context-only, no entry.First opposition: 7692.68, the broken H4 low. Confirmation above 7685.13 leaves too little room before that opposition for a stop below 7676.63. Beyond 7692.68, 7699.43-7705.30 is the next recovery zone.Structural failure: one M5 close below 7676.63 after acceptance. No defensible executable stop and entry budget fit before 7692.68.

Key Levels

  • 7705.30: Numeric invalidation for the bearish preparation. Acceptance above it would weaken the current H1 and H4 downside structure, without changing the accepted daily regime here.
  • 7699.43-7705.30: Recovery resistance from the latest H4 close area and broken H1 support. The component prices are grouped because their internal gaps are within the 4.07-point tolerance.
  • 7692.68: Broken H4 low and first opposition above 7685.13.
  • 7685.13: First isolated resistance above the latest H1 range.
  • 7676.63-7680.27: Immediate resistance from the daily low and latest H1 high.
  • 7661.33: Latest completed H1 low. It held through the post-H1 M5 recovery and is therefore tested, not broken.
  • 7637.72: First downside opposition after a confirmed 7661.33 break.
  • 7631.42: Separate daily support below 7637.72.

Session Map

  • 00:00 UTC: Asia phase begins alongside the Tokyo cash open. Pre-opening moves are context and cannot activate this preparation retrospectively.
  • 00:00-01:30 UTC: Let the opening establish whether 7661.33 or 7676.63-7680.27 is tested first. Avoid entries during a one-candle sweep.
  • 01:30 UTC: Hong Kong and Shanghai cash markets open. Do not enter during an opening spike unless the full close and bounded-retest sequence finishes afterward.
  • 06:00-08:00 UTC: Require fresh confirmation. Do not carry an unfinished retest beyond 08:00 UTC, and do not chase a downside move that has already reached 7637.72.

There is no supplied high-importance USD event inside this phase.

No-Trade Conditions

Do not trade a wick through 7661.33 or 7685.13 without the stated number of M5 closes and bounded retest. Pass the downside candidate if its confirmation completes below 7659.00, if price reaches 7637.72 before entry, or if unknown spread and slippage remove the stated room. A decisive reclaim cancels the current break candidate; any later break must begin a new confirmation sequence.

Stay out while price oscillates between 7661.33 and 7676.63 without completing either confirmation. The support-hold and upside-acceptance branches are context-only because their nearest opposition leaves no defensible executable room.

What to Watch — Invalidation

A completed M5 reclaim above 7676.63 after a downside confirmation invalidates that short scenario. Acceptance above 7685.13 shifts attention toward 7692.68, but does not create an executable long here. The broader bearish preparation is invalidated at 7705.30. Until then, the main risk to the bearish lean is a trap at 7661.33, where a failed break could rotate price back through 7676.63-7680.27 without changing the accepted daily regime.

Differences: direction: current down, historical neutral; event risk: current normal, historical unknown; ATR: current 1.06053%, historical unknown. Historical review assessment: partial (the journal’s assessment). Historical review excerpt: “SP500 produced a downside Trap day on October 7, 2026, not the expected Trend day. It opened at 7,830.11, held below the prepared 7,845.02 high, then broke 7,794.59 after the US cash open and reached 7,764.29. The late recovery closed the index at 7,800.49, back above the failed floor but still 29.62 points below the open. The preparation's lower-weighted downside branch and conditional short described the selloff, while the 39% upside lead and day-type call did not describe the full session.” Lesson from that review: “The surprise was moderate. The preparation mapped the downside break and its first target, so the selloff itself was not outside the plan. What it missed was the combination of a failed 39% upside lead, a lower-edge break that recovered by the close, and a Trap day after the preparation had called Trend. 1. Day-type precondition checks: Two bullish daily closes and an impulsive H4 leg did not just” Whole-day preparation; original publication cutoff unverified.
