S&P 500 Daily Regime, 28 October 2026

Regime: Higher-timeframe range with a short-term recovery bias. The rebound has repaired recent damage, but it hasn't yet restored the broader uptrend.

W1 and D1 structure

The completed weekly structure remains corrective. Price rejected the 7,839.17 to 7,845.02 area in mid-October, then printed two lower weekly closes at 7,657.87 and 7,632.83. The wider range is still intact between 7,610.13 and 7,845.02, so this is consolidation rather than a confirmed weekly breakdown.

Daily price has recovered for two sessions from the 26 October low at 7,616.01. The 27 October candle closed at 7,721.52 after reaching 7,737.82, confirming demand above the prior day's 7,703.62 high. That recovery is constructive, but price remains below the 7,758.79 to 7,771.61 resistance band and well below the October high.

The inference is a neutral to mildly bullish daily bias while price holds above 7,703.62. A close above 7,771.61 would strengthen the recovery and expose 7,815.25, followed by 7,839.17 to 7,845.02. Failure back below 7,703.62 would weaken the rebound and return attention to 7,665.07, then the 7,610.13 to 7,616.01 support zone.

H4 and H1 condition

H4 has shifted from decline into recovery. The advance from 7,625.12 on 26 October reached 7,737.82 on 27 October, with the final two completed H4 candles holding above 7,716.07. Momentum has slowed near 7,738, so the market is pressing resistance rather than breaking cleanly through it.

H1 shows the same condition in more detail. Price rallied from the 14:00 UTC low at 7,677.82 to 7,737.07, pulled back to 7,715.57, then retested the highs at 7,737.82. The latest completed H1 candle closed at 7,726.19 at 23:00 UTC, inside a 7,719.75 to 7,727.44 range. This is consolidation beneath resistance, with no confirmed H1 breakout above 7,737.82.

Latest M5 developments

The reference price is 7,726.19, from the completed M5 candle closed at 23:00 UTC on 27 October. During the latest H1 candle, M5 initially dipped to 7,719.75, recovered through 7,725, and reached 7,727.44. It closed near the upper part of that hourly range.

The intraday rebound and reclaim of 7,720 have already occurred. The remaining question is whether buyers can clear 7,727.44 and then 7,737.82. Holding 7,719.75 keeps that attempt alive. A fresh break below 7,719.75 would point toward 7,715.57 and 7,703.62 rather than represent a still-pending test of support that has already failed.

Levels and scenarios

  • Bullish continuation: Acceptance above 7,737.82 would target 7,758.79 to 7,771.61. A daily close above 7,771.61 would materially improve the higher-timeframe picture.
  • Consolidation: Holding between 7,703.62 and 7,737.82 would preserve the recovery while leaving price trapped beneath daily resistance.
  • Recovery failure: Sustained trade below 7,703.62 would expose 7,665.07, followed by 7,637.72 and the 7,610.13 to 7,616.01 base.

Event risk

  • 28 October, 14:30 UTC: EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change, high importance.
  • 28 October, 18:00 UTC: Fed Interest Rate Decision, high importance.
  • 28 October, 18:30 UTC: FOMC Press Conference, high importance.

The Federal Reserve decision and press conference are the main volatility risks. Until then, 7,737.82 is the immediate ceiling and 7,703.62 is the recovery pivot.

Session Card

Day type: range | Lean: mildly bullish above 7,719.75 | Lead scenario: bullish continuation, 40% | Key invalidation: 7,715.57 | Reference: 7,726.69, M5 close at 23:30 UTC on 27 October 2026

What changed

After the latest H1 close at 7,726.19, completed M5 trade dipped to 7,724.06, reached 7,728.94 and closed at 7,726.69. Price traded beyond the earlier 7,727.44 high, but no completed M5 candle closed above it. This is an observed probe, not confirmed acceptance or a breakout trigger.

The recovery remains above the 7,719.75 hourly low and 7,715.57 pullback low, while 7,737.82 remains unbroken resistance. That leaves Asia opening inside a tight consolidation beneath the daily high. The accepted daily recovery bias remains intact, but it isn't strengthened unless 7,737.82 closes and holds.

The selected 27 October Asia case is the useful warning for the preferred upside branch: early acceptance beyond resistance did not produce its target and later reversed. The current plan therefore requires two closes and a bounded retest. The 22 October case also showed that a directional move can begin without offering the preferred retest, so a missed entry budget is passed rather than chased. Neither case supplies calibrated odds for today's weights.

Bullish continuation40%Two consecutive M5 closes above 7,737.82. Within the next two M5 bars, price must retest 7,733.77 to 7,741.87, the 4.05 point tolerance around 7,737.82, and confirm the hold with an M5 close at or above 7,737.82. Entry: 7,737.82-7,742.00 after that holding close. Expiry: 07:30 UTC.First opposition: 7,758.79-7,761.61 target zone, grouping the prior D1 high and H4 recovery close. From the worst entry at 7,742.00, the zone begins 16.79 points away against 10.50 points to the stop. Spread and slippage are unknown and excluded.Scenario close invalidation: an M5 close below 7,733.77 after confirmation. Structural stop: 7,731.50, below the breakout tolerance and the 7,733 area that must become support.

Within the next two M5 bars, 7,724.00 must be retested within 7,719.95 to 7,728.05 and hold through an M5 close at or above 7,724.00. Entry: 7,724.00-7,727.00 after that holding close. Within the next two M5 bars, price must retest 7,711.52 to 7,719.62, the 4.05 point tolerance around 7,715.57, and fail with an M5 close below 7,715.57. Spread and slippage are unknown; no entry below 7,712.00.Scenario close invalidation: an M5 close above 7,719.75 after confirmation. Structural stop: 7,720.00, beyond the latest completed H1 low and failed-reclaim area.

Key Levels

  • 7,758.79-7,761.61: First upside target zone, grouping the prior D1 high and H4 recovery close within the supplied 4.05 point maximum gap.
  • 7,737.82: Completed D1 and H4 high. It remains the breakout decision level.
  • 7,719.75: Latest completed H1 low and immediate support for the consolidation.
  • 7,715.57: Pullback low and numeric invalidation for the mildly bullish Asia lean.
  • 7,703.62: Prior D1 high, now the first structural opposition after confirmed recovery failure.

Session Map

  • 00:00 to 01:30 UTC: Let the opening range form. The pre-window probe to 7,728.94 is context only. Do not treat it as a live breakout.
  • 01:30 to 05:00 UTC: The Hong Kong cash open can expand the range. Act only after a complete close and retest sequence at 7,737.82, 7,719.75 support, or 7,715.57.
  • 05:00 to 07:30 UTC: Demand confirmation promptly. Pass any trigger that reaches its first opposition before offering the stated entry budget.
  • 07:30 to 08:00 UTC: No new entries. Manage or close existing Asia plans before the phase ends at 08:00 UTC.

No listed high-importance event falls inside this phase. The supplied US events begin at 14:30 UTC, outside the Asia window.

No-Trade Conditions

  • No entry while completed M5 candles remain between 7,719.75 and 7,737.82 without completing one of the stated retests.
  • Do not buy a wick above 7,737.82 or sell a wick below 7,715.57.
  • Pass a candidate if confirmation finishes outside its entry budget, if the first opposition has already traded, or if fewer than two M5 bars remain before its expiry.
  • Stand aside if price crosses 7,724.00 repeatedly after testing support, or if a reclaim above 7,719.75 cancels a downside candidate. Any later break requires a new confirmation sequence.
  • Unknown spread and slippage must be checked before entry. The mapped room does not include those costs.

What to Watch — Invalidation

An M5 close below 7,715.57 invalidates the mildly bullish Asia lean and puts 7,703.62 back in view, but execution still requires the separate two-close and failed-reclaim sequence. A held break above 7,737.82 instead confirms that the overnight compression has resolved toward 7,758.79-7,761.61. Neither phase outcome changes the accepted daily regime by itself.

Historical review excerpt: “SP500 finished the Asia phase at 7693.72 , the supplied M5 close at 07:00 UTC . That was 38.70 points below the preparation reference of 7732.42. The bearish lean was directionally correct, but the 45% lead scenario never activated because price didn't test 7735.42 to 7742.42 after grading began. The direct downside route matched the eventual move through 7721.17, 7717.11, 7711.11 and 7695.11, but its M5 close and failed-rebound trigger can't be verified from the supplied H1 grading candles. The preparation is therefore graded Partial , based on an unassessable branch rather than a failed trad” Lesson from that review: “The directional read was sound: the rebound couldn't recover 7735.42, and price continued lower through every mapped downside level. The scenario design was also disciplined about not shorting the earlier 7731.11 break without fresh confirmation. The grading limitation matters. A setup defined by an M5 close plus a failed rebound needs M5 grading candles. H1 bars can show that the levels traded, b”

Historical review assessment: partial (the journal’s assessment). Historical review excerpt: “Asia stayed inside the wider 7667.12 to 7703.62 structure, but the path was less orderly than the 45% contained-rotation lead suggested. Price reached 7696.02 during the first hour, held above 7691.87 for two hourly closes, then reversed through the 7682.27 balance pivot. The phase finished at 7668.82, close to the lower boundary and 13.57 points below the preparation reference. The neutral range call was broadly right. The conditional upside failed to deliver continuation, while 7667.12 survived by 0.95 points on the phase low.” Lesson from that review: “The range classification handled the broad structure, but the contained-rotation branch needed more precise treatment of brief acceptance beyond 7691.87. An upside excursion can satisfy part of a breakout setup without producing the structural target at 7703.62. The requirement for a close and held retest was still sound. It prevented a simple touch above 7691.87 from being counted as successful c”

Historical review assessment: hit (the journal’s assessment). Historical review excerpt: “SP500 produced the expected Range day on October 19, 2026. The confirmed D1 candle opened at 7,648.89, reached 7,731.32, fell no lower than 7,646.53 and closed at 7,698.27. Most of that net rise occurred before the preparation's reference point. From the 7,698.02 reference, the index finished only 0.25 points higher after the active session rotated around 7,698.17 and held both decision edges. The preparation's day type, Neutral / Wait lean and 38% lead branch all matched the session.” Lesson from that review: “The session unfolded within the expected parameters. No material surprises. The decision band held, the midpoint kept pulling price back, and the absence of a scheduled catalyst left the cash open to confirm rotation rather than force a directional repricing. 1.
